As Vice President of Engineering at 1upHealth, Jess Sahagian leads the Product Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Data Platform, and Quality teams, which are collectively responsible for building scalable, secure, and interoperable systems that power the company’s health data management platform.
Jess brings two decades of experience scaling organizations and solving complex engineering challenges. Before joining 1upHealth, Jess served as CTO at Walden Local, where she drove strategic technology initiatives across e-Commerce and back-end platforms. Prior to that, she contributed to healthcare interoperability projects at MITRE and built consumer wearable technology at WHOOP. As Director of Engineering at connectRN, Jess drove 4x growth in the product engineering teams. Across roles, Jess has a track record of aligning technology with business outcomes and scaling high-performing teams.
Jess holds a B.A. in English/Art, a B.S. in Finance/Accounting, an M.S. in Computer Science, and an Executive MBA in Corporate Strategy and Statistics. She is passionate about using data to help patients, providers, and caregivers connect the dots to drive better health outcomes, an interest rooted in her experience growing up in a multi-generational household where healthcare decisions were central to family life.
Jess is an award-winning classic car restorer and semi-daily drives her numbers-matching 1967 Impala SS 396. The hobby was reignited in her 30s after someone told her, “I bet you can’t”, a phrase she considers the ultimate motivation. In college, she was voted Most Likely to Make You Laugh and still finds the ultimate joy in bringing laughter and levity to everyday moments.
