1upHealth raised $8 Million in Series A Funding

We are excited to announce that 1upHealth has raised $8M in Series A funding led by Jackson Square Ventures. Existing investors of our $2.4M seed round led by Meridian Street Capital, Eniac Ventures, and Social Leverage, all participated in this round as well.

At 1upHealth, we jumped early on the FHIR® regulations, which we believe is the future of healthcare standards. Our company rapidly established itself as a leader in the interoperability space making it easier for others to access and share data. Since 2019, we have tripled our hospital system connectivity, connecting to over 10,000 health facilities in the US, which expanded our capability to access over 90% of the patient population to date.

1upHealth is built entirely on FHIR® and is focused on helping bridge the gap between patient centered data and provider needs, thus creating a FHIR® API platform for patients to aggregate and share medical data from external health systems and wearable devices with their providers, enabling improved healthcare outcomes and lower costs. Our goal is to make it easier for any developer, provider, or payer to integrate electronic health records (EHRs) into various applications.

Frequently health information is scattered across offices and hospitals in various EHRs, which makes it difficult to obtain a longitudinal, holistic health record. 1upHealth is helping create this view across patients, providers, health plans, clinical trial companies and more. We have now furthered this mission by expanding our network to include more hospitals and health centers, and adding capabilities to our FHIR® API platform to make population level data transfer and analytics possible. Our organization built the reference implementation for FHIR® Bulk Data with Boston Children’s Hospital to showcase how the new standard can be used to streamline Payer and Provider quality reporting. This received national acclaim and funding as well as support from the HL7 community through which we successfully ballotted the bulk data spec.

Ricky Sahu, 1upHealth’s CEO, believes that “Ultimately our goal is to help people live longer, healthier lives and fundamentally, improved access to health data can help us do that.”

1up has also been recognized by 10+ awards and grants from the US government for our services and products, including the $1M LEAP Grant with Boston Children’s to build the reference implementation for Bulk FHIR. Our company won the MassChallenge’s 2019 HealthTech $100k Diamond award via the judges and $10k Startup award for 2019 based on the numerous organizations using our APIs to power their products.
