We spent the day at the White House in DC for the Blue Button 2.0 Developer Conference. This event set a great example of how the industry is empowering patients through control of their own medical records. CMS Administrator Seema Verma shared an anecdote of how the last time she requested her family’s medical records, she was given 5 sheets of paper and a CD-Rom. Today, CMS is leading the charge on unleashing the data patients have via FHIR® (fast healthcare interoperability resources) APIs in a way patients can take their data into any application of their choice. Over 70M patients (Medicare and Medicaid) will be able to access their claims data via API.
At 1upHealth we are excited to enable patient mediated access to CMS data for all the hundreds of developers building on our API platform. All the CMS Blue Button Data comes in along side any other health systems that have been connected by your users.
